From Saachi Bahl’s annual design show, Conscious Effort to The Vintage Garden’s summer pop-up, here is your weekend shopping calendar.

What: Conscious Effort

Where: The Imperial Hotel, Delhi

When: April 9, 2022

Why: In its fifth year now, the Conscious Effort was started by Saachi Bahl as a platform to educate, engage and empower people about sustainability in the fashion and lifestyle industry. It was two parts – the Conclave (which focuses on enabling action-led dialogue with eminent leaders) and the Design segment (which is an exhibit/pop-up).

This season, the Conclave has Anita Dongre and Yash Dongre as keynote speakers and some wonderful artisanal brands working on craft revivalism like Anju Modi, Gaurav Jai Gupta, Péro, Nicobar and more exhibiting at the show. Anita Dongre & Yash Dongre will be sharing their journey on “Building a Fashion Empire with Craft, Community, and Sustainability”. The Conclave will be held from 10:30 am-12:30 pm at Daniell’s Tavern at The Imperial, New Delhi.

When it comes to sustainability, Bahl is all about asking the right question, “Fashion is a huge industry employing millions of people across the globe. While ensuring employment and job opportunities is necessary, the industry urgently needs to address challenges like over-production and waste. Each day truckloads of clothes go into landfills in some parts of the world.

Where does this excess/waste go? Are fabrics that are used easily biodegradable? What type of dyes are being used and how do they impact water bodies? What can we do to create in a better way that’s bearable and equitable for the planet, people and profit is something that the industry needs to address collectively.” Both for her, and the brand “being conscious is a journey that both responsible is a journey that both consumers and producers need to recognize and collectively work towards to create a better world for the future.” Head to the Conscious Effort to engage in the conversation around sustainable fashion as well as pick conscious brands like Anju Modi, Pero, Akaaro, Nicobar, Meesa, and more.

Why: If you’re looking for a full day of luxe retail therapy then The Overdressed fashion exhibition is a great option. With designers like Varun Bahl, Shanti Banaras, Farah Sanjana, Rishi & Vibhuti on board, it’s chock-a-block full of Indianwear, western wear, and accessories.

What: Summer Pop-up at The Vintage Garden

Where: The Vintage Garden, Mumbai

When: April 8-10, 2022

Why: Mumbai’s most sought-after destination for fashion and lifestyle exhibitions, The Vintage Garden always has an interesting line-up of brands and designers. The Summer Pop-Up is packed with names like Yam, Amama, Three, Sufi Studio, OLayla, Naso Parfumi, Chamar, and more.

What: The Conscious Edit

Where: Cafe Reed at The Quorum, Mumbai

When: April 8-9, 2022

Why: Making sustainable fashion choices is a long-drawn process and awareness is the first step towards it. Meet, interact and learn from like-minded individuals at The Conscious Edit in Mumbai. Shuffling Suitcases is India’s first community of sustainable brands and conscious buyers and they are making their presence felt in Mumbai at The Quorum. Homegrown garments and jewelry labels, clean beauty brands, and a promise to plant a tree in your name (with every purchase) are on the agenda here.
