What to Wear to Disney World by Month: The Ultimate Disney Outfit Guide

Are you in the thick of planning a Disney vacation and just realized you need to also plan out what to wear to Disney World? You are in luck because today I am breaking down what you should consider wearing for every month at Disney World. It can be a nearly impossible task to know exactly what to wear because the weather can be unpredictable. However, it is also one of the most important things to consider when planning your trip. I think it’s the most fun too! What you decide to wear will frame your entire packing process and ultimately determine how comfortable you are during your trip. As a type A Mom with a strict Disney plan, I want to focus on my family and the trip. There is no time for blistered feet or being uncomfortable during a 12-hour park day. It is also important to look cute because you know these photos will be looked at for years to come!

After travelling to Disney World on several occasions, and obsessively planning trips, I wanted to share some of what I have learned when it comes to planning your Disney World outfits by month. Including, what the average temps are and special events that you may want to dress for. Always remember, you are likely to do a lot of walking, so you want to make sure you have comfortable shoes and clothing for each day.

What to Wear to Disney World: The Basics

There are a few generally agreed upon items that will make for a more enjoyable Disney trip when it comes to your attire. With 4 theme parks and two water parks to keep you busy on property, you’ll want to leave your glass slippers at home! And don’t forget to pack ponchos, because you do not want to be caught without one. Even when it isn’t the rainy season, you can expect a shower or two. Breathable fabric is also a must! It is quick drying and will help keep you cool!

*PRO TIP: Test out your outfits BEFORE your trip. Wear them on your next trip to the zoo or when you take the kids to the playground. This will give you an idea of what to wear to Disney World and what to leave at home!

Let’s Talk Shoes for Disney

It always amazes me how many steps I log during a Disney vacation. To walk from one end of Epcot to the other is at least one mile. Though your feet are likely to feel the distance, you can mitigate any pain by choosing the right pair of shoes. The two best shoes are:

  • Running Shoes
  • Open toe sandals with a cushioned sole

*REMEMBER: Never take brand new shoes to Disney. You want to break them in well before your trip.

We once got caught in an absolute downpour at Magic Kingdom and I had to ditch my canvas sneakers I thought were SO CUTE after that. So uncomfortable. I ended up buying a pair of Croc sandals from the souvenir store and wore them for four full park days. They were my first ever croc purchase and were beyond comfortable. So it is possible take sandals, just make sure they have plenty of support.

Park Bag

If travelling with young kids, you will need a backpack/diaper bag that will carry everything! You will also want something to carry your personal items (phone, credit cards, sanitizer, chapstick, etc.). I personally love a small bag that allows me to keep my hands free and doesn’t weigh me down.

We have a trip coming to Disney World coming up in December. It will be the first trip for our two-year-old son. Let me tell you, I obsessively shopped for hours looking for the perfect bag for myself. I could write an entire blog post about it! I wanted something versatile & functional. Something to wear at the park all day long, but then can transition to a “rest-day” bag for shopping and dining at Disney Springs. This bag checked all the boxes!! The best part, it is a great everyday bag for at home too! Opt for these two styles to make your day easier:

  • small backpack
  • convertible crossbody

Disney Tees

Go on, get the family the matching t-shirts and have fun! This is by far one of the most popular trends for families at Disney World. Buying them in advance of your trip will save you so much money! Etsy and Amazon have a ton of great options for the entire family.

If you don’t want a Disney tee, plan for a day the entire family wears the same color. This is something that is great for making memories and to look back on in photos.

Poncho

Disney World is in the heart of Florida, which is a peninsula smack in between the ocean and gulf coast. Even during dry season, there is still the possibility of a rain shower. While you can buy (expensive) ponchos everywhere in Disney, I recommend packing a few from home to save some money.

Tank Tops

Tank tops are great all year because they can be layered over top when it’s chilly or worn alone on the hottest days. What to look for to keep yourself cool & comfortable:

  • Primarily cotton
  • Athletic (quick dry & breathable) fabric

Shorts

If you are going in the heat of summer you will want to have comfortable shorts ready to go. If you bought a new pair for the trip, test them out before you go to make sure they’ll be comfortable and stay in place all day in the Florida heat and humidity. My favorite options:

  • Jean shorts with a longer inseam (size up one for a relaxed fit)
  • Bike shorts with a 5″ inseam.

January: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 72, Low 52

Events: Disney Marathon & Festival of the Arts

The record books will tell you January is the coldest month to visit Florida. You should plan on bringing Winter gear if you’re going this month. Be prepared, though, there have been 75+ degree days in January. Bring a pair of shorts just in case. Layers are a must, especially for when the sun goes down. You will want a jacket or sweatshirt for the late evening in the park.

Park shoes should be closed toe and bring plenty of socks to help keep your feet warm.

Consider taking:

  • Pants & Jeans
  • Long Sleeve Shirts
  • Warm Jacket
  • Sweatshirt/Long Sleeves
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • Running shoes & warm socks

February: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 74, Low 53

Events: Festival of the Arts

Similar to January, going to Disney World in February requires layers and pants. They will keep you comfortable as you go from walking through the streets of the park to waiting in line. Thankfully, the humidity is significantly lower this month. Typically, the average high temperature in February at Disney World is approximately 75 degrees Fahrenheit during the day.

When we went to Disney in February, I recall the mornings and evenings being chilly but the daytime temps were great. As always, temperature and weather can change in a heartbeat at Disney World. You want to always be prepared for a bit of afternoon rain as well as unexpected warmer days due to the sun. Take a variety of pants and shorts, but check the weather just before your trip to make sure you have enough coverage.

Consider taking:

  • Active capris
  • Pants & Jeans
  • T-shirts
  • Jacket
  • Sweatshirt/Long Sleeves
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • running shoes

March: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 78, Low 58

Events: Flower & Garden Festival

With this being the start of Spring Break season, the temps should be consistently warmer as March goes on. You won’t be terribly uncomfortable, as compared to mid-Summer heat, but it will be warm and pleasant! Take plenty of shorts, short sleeves, and tanks. Take a lightweight jacket or sweatshirt just in case.

Consider taking:

  • Active capris & pants
  • shorts
  • Tank tops or Tee Shirts
  • Lightweight jacket or sweatshirt
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • running shoes
  • Bathing Suit (the resort pools are heated)

April: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 83, Low 63

Events: Flower & Garden Festival

If you are planning what to wear to Disney World in April, you should know this is the month where the Summer heat begins to show. The weather starts to transition from Spring to Summer. If you are a skirt or dress kind of girl, either is a great option this month (especially with the Flower & Garden Festival photo ops!) but avoid anything extra flowy or overly long. Remember to throw on a pair of biking shorts underneath to avoid a revealing moment on a thrill ride & to keep comfortable.

This month will be sunny and hot. You shouldn’t need a jacket, but don’t forget the poncho! Take some shorts, tees, and tank tops. You won’t be facing the extreme Summer heat & humidity that will hit Disney World in Summer, so you won’t have to worry as much about moisture wicking & breathable fabrics.

Don’t take heavy layers. Bring a bathing suit for the pool!

Consider taking:

  • Shorts & pants
  • Tank tops or Tee Shirts
  • Lightweight jacket or sweatshirt
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • running shoes
  • Open toe cushioned walking sandals or crocs
  • Bathing Suit (just in case)

May: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 88, Low 69

Events: Flower & Garden Festival

Temperatures begin to climb this month and it will likely be hot, humid and sunny! Although, it won’t be as miserable as in the months ahead, it will still be hot. Take shorts, tank tops and tees! Great walking shoes and, of course, your poncho.

*TIP: Dark colors attract heat. Pack light colored clothing to help keep cool all day long!

Do not take pants or a coat. But do bring your bathing suit if you plan to enjoy the resort pool or water park.

Consider taking:

  • Shorts
  • Tank tops or Tee Shirts
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • running shoes
  • Open toe cushioned walking sandals or crocs
  • Bathing Suit

June: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 90, Low 73

Events: Summer Break

The summer months at Disney, there is nothing quite like them. Everything about summer is a little “extra”.. Extra heat, Extra humidity, and Extra rain. Then there’s that extra chance of a hurricane blowing through, because hurricane season begins June 1st! What to wear to Disney World in the Summer is pretty simple. Take the lightest fabric (both in weight and color) in shorts and tank tops. You can get by with short sleeves if in a extra breathable fabric. Consider taking:

  • Athletic shorts
  • Athletic/cotton tank tops
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack (to keep your shoulder from being weighed down)
  • White or gray running shoes
  • Open toe cushioned walking sandals or crocs
  • Bathing Suit

Take your bathing suit and flip flops for the pool. Some people prefer to take bathing suits to the park for water rides to avoid walking around in wet clothes. Also take A light dress if stopping by Disney Springs!

July: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 92, Low 75

Events: Summer Break  &  Fourth of July

For July, go with the same recommendation as June. In July, the extreme heat and humidity continue! It will also rain in July. If you aren’t familiar with Summer rain in Florida, it is a torrential downpour. Don’t worry, it only lasts for a short while then clears up for the evening!

DO NOT TAKE PANTS. Unless you have miracle cooling pants, just don’t take them.

August: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 91, Low 75

Events: Summer Break  &  Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

Technically speaking, August is the warmest month in Florida. But it is really hard to tell the difference between June and July because when temps are that warm, one and two degrees doesn’t really make a difference! Pack your lightest clothing in August! If your wondering what to wear to Disney World in August & what shoes to bring, I would still recommend tennis shoes, even though it will be warm. Comfort is a must! Many people prefer running shoes over walking sandals. When I went to Disney in August, I found Crocs to be super comfortable and worth every penny!

Consider taking:

  • Athletic shorts
  • Athletic/cotton tank tops
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack (to keep your shoulder from being weighed down)
  • White or gray running shoes
  • Open toe cushioned walking sandals or crocs
  • Bathing Suit

September: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 89, Low 74

Events: Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party  &  Food and Wine Festival

Going to Disney World in September will still be pretty hot. The weather does not start cooling off until the very end of the month. Continue to pack light clothing, though you won’t be as miserable as compared to Summer months. This is also an exciting time to go to Disney World because it begins the Halloween celebrations! You may want to dress up the family for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!

Consider taking:

  • Shorts
  • T-Shirts & tank tops
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • Walking shoes
  • Open toe cushioned walking sandals or crocs
  • Bathing suit

October: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 84, Low 68

Events: Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party  &  Food and Wine Festival

It will still be warm in Disney this month. For the evenings in late October, or for when you’re in an air-conditioned building, you could potentially get away with wearing a very lightweight hoodie for any potential cold that comes through. Sandals can stay at home if you prefer, as the temps cool enough to be more comfortable in shoes all day long.

Consider taking:

  • Shorts
  • Tank tops or Tee Shirts
  • Lightweight jacket or cardigan
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • running shoes
  • Open toe cushioned walking sandals or crocs
  • Bathing Suit (the resort pools are heated)
  • Costume

November: What to Wear to Disney World

Weather: High 78, Low 59

Events: Food and Wine Festival,  Festival of the Holidays  &  Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

This is a great time to visit Walt Disney world and figuring out what to wear to Disney will be much easier. The temperatures begin to cool, and hurricane season comes to an end. The weather may still be unpredictable, but is much more pleasant. You will want to have shorts for days that are warm. This is also the beginning of the Christmas season at Disney!

Consider taking:

  • Active capris & pants
  • shorts
  • Tank tops or Tee Shirts
  • Lightweight jacket or sweatshirt
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • running shoes

December: What to Wear to Disney World

December is very similar to January and February. It could be absolutely cold in December at Disney World, but it could also be warm. In December, it is best to pack layers and be prepared for big temperature shifts throughout the day. My friend went in December one year, packing warm weather clothes and they experienced temps in the 40s! It is best to pack layers to avoid paying high prices for warm layers in the park.

Weather: High 73, Low 54

Events: Festival of the Holidays  &  Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

Consider taking:

  • Pants & Jeans
  • Long Sleeve Shirts
  • Warm Jacket
  • Sweatshirt/Long Sleeves
  • Poncho
  • Lightweight fanny pack or backpack
  • Running shoes & warm socks
