Tingsek

Magnus Tingsek

I’m not a guy that sings praises. In fact, I don’t really sing save for the time at dinner the other night when I busted out with “Is You Is Or Is You Ain’t My Baby” spontaneous-like.

Lately though, I’m on a Sweden kick. NeoAztlan’s first issue featured Hoosam – part of the Stockholm-based hip hop supergroup Highwon. Before that, I was shaking Jose Gonzalez’s hand at a recent show at San Antonio’s Limelight like a little schoolgirl with a crush.

Now, I’m thinking there’s something in the water in Sweden because along comes Magnus Tingsek from Malmö, Sweden. Aside from the crazy name, this dude’s sound is probably the best thing to happen to vanilla funk since Boz Scaggs. He’s got the flavor with a tinge of something mixed in that only Swedes seem to know about. His Web site describes his sound as “like an adaptation of black and white soul music tinged with Magnus’ first love – Americana.”

His latest release “World Of Its Own” is a prelude to an upcoming long and romantic weekend with my better half.

The track “I Love You” is available here.

Enjoy.
